5 ways our Hunks can help keep you cool and Junk-FREE this summer!
Summer is here and it's hotter than ever! Let us do the hard work so that you can stay cool! Here are 5 simple ways you can use the Hunks to keep yourself Junk FREE and out of the heat!
- Junk Filled Attics – Let's face it, nobody wants to work up in the attic, especially during the sweltering summer heat. Lucky for you the hunks are here to help. We will go into your attic and remove your unwanted items so that you don't have to!
- Energy Efficiency - Many electrical items tend to fail in the summer. It could be the heat, the extra use or maybe it's just time to be replaced. Regardless it is imperative to a pleasant summer to have appliances in working order. Schedule the hunks to take away your old appliances the same day your new ones arrive. Then sit back, relax and we take care of the rest!
- Garage Banned: Do you feel like you've been banned from your own garage? Is the junk so overwhelming that you feel like you don't know where to start? Step one: Call the hunks at 1-800-JUNK-USA. We will come to your home and provide an accurate estimate for your garage cleanout. The best part is we do all the labor, loading, disposal and cleanup so that you don't have to!
- A Full Deck - Have you looked under your deck lately? It is a place where items can be easily stashed for future keeping. However, inevitably the elements wear the items down, plants over grow the area and bugs find a comfy home. Let us crawl under there and clean it out for you, while you relax with a refreshing glass of lemonade!
- Shed A Layer- A shed is another place where unwanted items seem to end up. Between old tools, electronics and other equipment, a shed often becomes a storage unit. Make the most of that space by calling the Hunks to remove the items that you no longer need.

Keep or Toss? Tips to Conquer Paper Clutter
Paperwork is a big problem for many people and no one likes to file. And did you know that, in general, people only need to keep 20% of the paperwork they have? Paper can be manageable if you know what to keep and for how long. Just ask yourself these questions:
- Am I legally required to keep it? (i.e., vital records, tax documents)
- If so, for how long?
- Will I actually use it/refer to it/need it?
- Is the information still current?
- Can it easily be replicated if needed again (i.e. found on the web)?
- Is it a duplicate?
- What’s the worst that can happen if I toss it?
Now that you’ve decided if something’s worth keeping, here are some guidelines for how long to keep it:
- Permanently: Vital records including birth/death/marriage/divorce certificates, wills, military records, passports & social security cards should be kept in a safe deposit box. Diplomas, very special memoribilia, medical records (not bills) can be kept at home permanently.
- As long as you own it, then shred: Car title, house deeds, owner’s manuals, warranty receipts, household inventory list, stock certificates (in a safe deposit box)
- 7 years, then shred: Tax returns
- Until the next one comes (generally quarterly or annually), then shred: Investment statements, Insurance agreements & in-network directories, Social Security statements, school schedules
- 1 month: Monthly bills (unless it’s a tax deduction, then 7 years), receipts (once you’ve reconciled), magazines, coupons (until they expire), event announcements (once they pass)
- Daily/weekly: To Do lists, handwritten notes that are out of date, contact info (this should get entered into your address book whether paper or electronic), newsletters
- Never: Junk Mail, flyers, magazines you won’t read, coupons you won’t use, invitations for events you won’t go to. Toss these in the outdoor trash so they never enter your home.
TIP: Most banks have electronic statements and many now keep 3-6 years worth in archives so you don’t need to keep the paper bank statements once you’ve signed up. Also, investment companies can send electronic statements & you can sign up to view statements & prospectuses online so you can shred or toss these as well.
Now go blast through those piles and enjoy a clean desk!

Mom was right : Cleaning Your room and Feng Shui
"Your sacred space is where you find yourself again and again." –Joseph Campbell
When I was little my mother used to tell me to clean my room. I always wondered, "why should I clean my room? Why does it matter? It really doesn't bother me if it gets a little messy." Little did I know that there is a whole art and science behind how items were positioned in my room including the state of cleanliness.
It turns out our mood, ability to concentrate and overall stress levels are greatly affected by the way items are arranged in a room.
Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese practice of positioning objects, buildings and even whole communities to create a harmonious environment. The professions of Feng Shui and personal organization are well established bourgeoning industries, both in America and around the world.
The premise is simple, when our environment and surroundings are in disorder, full of clutter we feel burdened, stressed and scattered. It is a lingering feeling like low hanging wisps of smoke that don't dissipate. But when our surroundings are in order we feel great. Our minds are clear, and we feel a lightness because that perpetual lingering burden is gone.
Feng Shui is one method of working towards a clutter free lifestyle. As a little boy if I had known more about the unmistakable positive feeling associated with clutter free surroundings, I may have cleaned my room more often, sorry mom!
The sooner you get rid of that junk that has been piling up for weeks, months or even years, the sooner you will feel the sense of relief that only comes from being Junk Free!
"The things surrounding you in your home serve as subliminal reminders of who you are. They will continue to direct you towards old patterns of behavior. Subconscious beliefs are generally so deep-seated that one is not aware of them". ~Denise Linn, Feng Shui for the Soul
